 Purpose

The Psychosocial (PS) Project Officer with technical support of the DRC PS delegate WNS and the SRCS PS Coordinator will assist the SRCS White Nile Branch with management of the SRCS-DRC PSS project funded by ECHO including implementation, coordination and PMER of PS activities implemented in the reception centres/entry points and two refugee camps. All PS activities are to be carried out through the established SRCS structures and have to follow SRCS standards for PSS. The PS Program Officer will ensure effective project implementation in accordance with the SRCS standards and the donor’ requirements. The PS Project Officer will be responsible for mentoring staff and volunteers implementing PS activities as well as ensuring that ‘Caring for Volunteers’ (CfV) strategy/methods are rolled out in White Nile State. 


Key responsibilities

 Main tasks

Capacity development and technical support

·         Enhance the capacity of SRCS PS Field staff and volunteers to deliver quality and safe PSS by on the job trainings and by facilitating workshops in coordination with the Branch Director in White Nile State, SRCS PS Program Coordinator at HQ and DRC PS Delegate

·         Supervise and mentor project team in the WNS

Representation and liaison

·         Attend relevant cluster meetings to establish partnerships and enhance coordination at the WNS Branch level

·         Follow up on cluster meetings with the DRC PS delegate and PS Program Coordinator at HQ

·         Engage in advocacy and HD activities promoting the SRCS PS services available as and when advised by the WNS Branch Director and the SRCS PS Coordinator

Programme implementation, monitoring, evaluation and reporting

·         In close cooperation with the DRC PS Delegate, ensure effective implementation of the ECHO funded PS project

·         Ensure safe, dignifying and quality PS and protection service delivery to South Sudanese refugees in the entry points and two selected refugee camps

·         Contribute to the PMER of SRCS/DRC PS activities in White Nile State

·         Contribute in the development of monitoring tools and maintain records by writing monthly, quarterly and annual reports to the Branch Director, DRC PS delegate and SRCS PS Program Coordinator

·         Ensure Caring for Volunteer (CfV) strategy/methods are rolled out in White Nile State

Management and strategy development

·         Make field based recommendations to the SRCS PS Program Coordinator and DRC PS Delegate on the best course of action for the PS services

·         Contribute to the development of LFA and PoA for SRCS PS/Protection initiatives and activities in White Nile State

·         Prepare quarterly plans and budgets for SRCS PS/Protection activities in White Nile State

Personal qualifications

Education

Background in Social Sciences such as a BA in Psychology, Social Work, Community Development, Sociology, Anthropology and related fields

Experience and Knowledge

 

·         More than 5 years’ experience in a similar position in a humanitarian organization or NGO, with more than 2 years’ experience in the area of MHPSS and/or protection

·         Good leadership, organizational communication and advocacy skills

·         Strong interpersonal and cross cultural skills for building synergies and collaboration with partners, beneficiaries and donor agencies

·         Ability to develop, monitor and evaluate psychosocial activities for refugees

·         Strong facilitation skills and knowledge about adult learning methodologies

·         Experience of supervision and mentoring

·         Self-supporting in computers (Windows, spreadsheets, word processing)

Languages

 

·         Fluency in Arabic - spoken and written

·         Fluency in English-spoken and written

Core Competencies

 

·         Strong project management skills

·         Experience in the ECHO funded projects management is an asset

·         Willing to work according to the Red Cross/Red Crescent fundamental principles

·         Able, willing and committed to work with people with different backgrounds and experiences, including  survivors of abuse and SGBV

·         Ability to guide staff, volunteers and affected population in a respectful  manner

·         Sensitive to the feelings expressed and behaviors displayed by the volunteers and affected population

·         Committed to take responsibility for good communication amongst volunteers

·         Mature, flexible and able to work under pressure assuming a range of unanticipated assignments

·         Willingness to work in the field conditions, to travel extensively to project locations regularly and to SRCS HQ in Khartoum on a need basis

·         Ability to assume various roles and assignments as directed by the immediate supervisor within the scope of the SRCS mandate
